I found a lot of interesting and eye catching art in this gallery, as I was walking around Glasgow gallery of modern art I was getting quite annoyed, I kept thinking to myself “Why is everywhere just filled with art? Why is there no design?” But that was a narrow minded way of thinking, art is design; everything is design. That artist that painted that painting, sat down and designed it before painting it, they even designed it while painting it. So you may see a lot of art in my blogs but they aren't just art…they are design.

The first design I wanted to talk about is the inside of the building, when you first walk in the amount of light hitting the flooring and walls really sets the atmosphere, the blue tinted lights give off a calming vibe making you ready to walk around viewing some more art. It may have just been me but I was tired walking around all day but when entering the Gallery I felt awake again and it was all to do with how the designed the building. Looking up you can see how they used a repetitive shape to keep the rhythm of the building and they open space giving the light the opportunity to work around the rooms. The roof top glass itself is a wonderful piece of design, it looks so elegant and clean, it really pulls the room together.

This piece i’m going to talk about is by Jack Knox, it’s called How it is.

I really enjoyed looking at this design; others may look at this and think nothing of it, think of it as “messy” and may be uninspired by it. I look at this and think how is brain was working, it was working; how all these doddles and sketches were getting quickly pushed out onto the page in his sketchbook, hoping one might lead him to an end design. Looking at this makes me want to start working in my sketchbook, filling the pages with potential designs.

The next piece of design was some technical drawings that were on display, the were designs of the building itself.

I really like these design because of the simple yet effective style of drawing, it has been rendered to give a full realistic look. For me they are really intriguing to look at and I also like how it has a meaning behind it because it is a drawing of the building that it displayed in.

Although I really enjoyed the interior of The Gallery of Modern art, the pieces inside weren't that exciting, they were nice to look at but they were something that I wanted to write about. I only found to designs worth writing about, which was a bit of a disappointment but I’m glad I went as I learnt more about design than I thought I would.
