Let me take you back in time
I came across this article and I was going to skip past it but for some reason my brain just kept reading, but i’m glad it did. This article is all about taking the internets most used social medias and incorporating them into designs from the 1980’s, like instagram becoming a disposable camera, spotify becoming walkman and whatsapp becoming a walkie-talkie
Thinking about it, a lot of the time we take for granted what we have now, how far we’ve come in the world of technology; i’m not judging; I do it to. Could you imagine sitting down and watching tv in black and white? Imagine writing a letter and waiting days for a reply because it had to be sent in the post and not by a simply click on your phone. I just simply don’t think I could do it, I don’t think I could give up what I have now and live the way people did in the 1980’s.
Tom le french the designer behind this article made a photo series of today’s technologies and mashed them together with objects from the 1980’s
These two mashups are my favourite because I use these two on a daily basis and it’s just funny for me to think about how I would have to adapt and change the way I work with these designs if they were to ever change. Also the things we use nowadays aren’t objects, they are within an object (phones) but they aren’t objects themselves, so if these mashups were real, we would be sitting with Instagram in our hands; which is just crazy to think about.
I think what is important to remember from this article is that we should pay attention to how fast technology changes and that we are very lucky to be in a generation where communication is easy and that we can connect and grow with technology.
