BRIC: Week 8

With the creative development of BRIC from the previous week, we received great news on the new studio Bally had sought to move to. The responsibility of the redesign for this space was passed on to me and this felt like such a great moment. The creative responsibility I had to express here on behalf of the company was a huge opportunity that I couldn’t miss. I took Bally up on this and started the process straight away. Although this was exciting, we did still have a number of other projects to focus on. We had to manage our time wisely and not jump into any new projects at full-force, too soon. This was a project I was given independent ownership of and was briefed to catch-up with Bally on in time to show her my ideas, however this is a prime example of how important teamwork is, and really showcases that every designer thinks differently and when working together that the best ideas always come together as you have combine the talent of multiple individuals, working as one.

The new space came with a brief of creating something to really represent BRIC as a company and this meant that the design process had to be planned in a way to be smooth. Although our rendering has improved, it is not yet at the highest standard, and this was a good time to change the software we use, as it was an in-house project. I completed research and found a new rendering software called Foyr Neo, which was a difficult process to comprehend at first as I have only ever used Sketchup paired with a rendering extension. It meant a lot to me that Bally valued my 3D modelling skills and provided me the ownership to look for a software that not only benefit the company but something that I could logistically work with, to complete deadlines.

Client 4

After discussing with a client over the phone, drawing up files in CAD and communicating with the tradespeople to ensure the client’s furniture and curtains were being made and delivered, it was time to return to the clients space and install. This was a new experience for me and I really enjoyed seeing the project all the way through to completion. There was an issue with one of the clients’ curtains during the week however we luckily came up with a solution that didn’t cost too much time or money to solve. This showed me the importance of reputation and is how you always have to be business minded and prepared, as issues can always arise.
